IC 2-8-2 #1868 - Illinois Central
Description:
Hauling a long string of freight cars is this Lima built 2-8-2 Mikado, Illinois Central #1868 (serial #5731). The loco would later be rebuilt and renumbered by the IC shops in November of 1938 to IC #1356. After nearly 37 years of service, the loco would be sold for scrap in May of 1955. Original specs - 63.5" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 291,500 lb, tractive effort of 54,158 lb. No exact date, location or photographer was listed for the photo.

Description:
Built by Lima in October of 1918 as Illinois Central 1875, this 2-8-2 Mikado would go on to be rebuilt and renumbered to IC #1363 by the IC shops in March of 1942. It would again be renumbered to IC #1671 in February of 1954 and finally retired in February of 1960. Original specs - 63.5" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 291,500 lb, tractive effort of 54,158 lb. No date, location or photographer was listed for the photo.

Built by Baldiwn in January of 1912 as Illinois Central 2-8-2 Mikado #1684 (serial #37464), the was rebuilt and renumbered by the IC shops in April of 1944 as IC #1741. After nearly 43 years of service the loco was sold for scrap in May of 1955. Original specs - 63" drivers, 175 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 283,850 lb, tractive effort of 51,637 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Sitting in the Proviso yard scrap line after is sale for scrap in May is this Lima built 2-8-2 Mikado awaiting the scrapper's torch. Built in September of 1923 as Illinois Central #1910, the IC shops rebuilt and renumbered it in April of 1938 to IC #1398. It continued to serve unti being sold for scrap in May of 1955. Built by Baldwin in July of 1918 as Illinois Central 2-8-2 Mikado #1804, it would be rebuilt and renumbered to IC #2101 seen here by the IC shops in April of 1938. The loco met its end in May of 1955 when it was sold for scrap. Such a sad sight to see this once proud 2-8-2 Mikado sitting in a scrap line at Proviso, IL. Built by Baldwin in July of 1911 as Illinois Central #1611 (serial #36646), it was rebuilt and renumbered by the IC shops in April of 1944 to IC #1613. Then in April of 1951, it was renumbered again to IC #1758 as seen here. After nearly 44 years of service, the loco was sold for scrap in May of 1955. Original specs - 63" drivers, 175 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 283,850 lb, tractive effort of 51,637 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Originally built as Illinois Central 2-8-2 #1929 by Lima Locomotive Works in October of 1923, it was later rebuilt and renumbered by the IC shops first to IC #1514 in January of 1944 and then to IC #1814 in November of 1949 as seen here. The loco lasted a few years more before being sold for scrap in May of 1955. Illinois Central 2-8-2 Mikado #1804 seen here in the Proviso yard (IL) started out as a Baldwin 2-8-2 marked Illinois Central #1546 (serial #41448) built in May of 1914. The IC shops rebuilt and renumbered it in February of 1944 to IC #1504. In November of 1949, it was renumbered again to IC 1804 as seen here. It served nearly 41 years before being scrapped in 1955. Long before as SW14 loco wore the IC #1505, this Baldwin 2-8-2 Mikado, Illinois Central #1505, had the honor to wear it. Built in july of 1918 as IC #1806 (serial #49353), the IC shops rebuilt and renumbered to IC #1294 in November of 1941. Later in January of 1951 it was again renumbered to IC #1505 as seen here in the scrap line at Proviso, IL. The loco lasted on the rosters until beind sold for scrap in February of 1956.
