Long before as SW14 loco wore the IC #1505, this Baldwin 2-8-2 Mikado, Illinois Central #1505, had the honor to wear it. Built in july of 1918 as IC #1806 (serial #49353), the IC shops rebuilt and renumbered to IC #1294 in November of 1941. Later in January of 1951 it was again renumbered to IC #1505 as seen here in the scrap line at Proviso, IL. The loco lasted on the rosters until beind sold for scrap in February of 1956. Rebuild specs - 63.5" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 308,500 lb and tractive effort of 65,868 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
