Everyday. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, during early November of 1965. Shown here is PRR engine #2300, an EF-25 built by GM-EMD in November of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. It is pulling a mixed-cargo freight train and is passing by the PRR Passenger Station on its way into the Hollidaysburg Yards.

Everyday. Here is an image of a color photo (converted to B&W) by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, c. 1966. Shown here is the pedestrian walkway on the Union Street Bridge. The Bridge spans the Pennsylvania Railroad's freight yards at this point, but was demolished in 1966 upon completion of the new Penn Street/Route 36 bridge. Incidentally, the two tracks in the foreground occupy the original right-of-way of the Allegheny Portage Railroad (c. 1840).

Shown here (F to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8505 and another SW-1 whose number is not recorded. #8505 was built by GM-EMD as number "9205" in April of 1949, rated at 600 horsepower, and renumbered "8505" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. Dominating the distance is a portion of the PRR's Samuel Rea Shop.

Everyday. Here is an original telephoto view that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in March of 1972. Shown here (L to R) are Penn Central Railroad engines #9035, #9020, and #2436. #9035 is an SW7 built by GM-EMD in May of 1950 and rated at 1,200 horsepower; its original PRR number was "9365." #9020 is a SW1200 built by GM-EMD in November of 1957 and rated at 1,200 horsepower; its original PRR number was "7920." #2436 is a C425 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower; its original PRR number was the same. Everyday. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in March of 1972. Prominent here is Penn Central Railroad engine #9035, an SW7 switcher built by GM-EMD in May of 1950 and rated at 1,200 horsepower; its original PRR number was "9365." Its crew is shifting some cars in the Yard, two of which are wrecked TrailerTrain flatcars that will be delivered to the Berwind-White Railroad Car Shops. At the left is the Yardmaster's Office. "Bald Hill" dominates the distance.

Shown here is the PC's Maintenance-of-Way Office/Bunk Car, located at the very eastern end of South Juniata Street. This looks like a Pullman-built car that has been put-up on two stacks of railroad ties. Perhaps it saw better days during the long-gone "Age of Steam"!

Everyday. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in March of 1972. Shown here is Penn Central Railroad engine #6970, an AS616 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton for the Pennsylvania Railroad as number "8970" in June of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. By the looks of it, this locomotive ~ now renumbered "6970" ~ has been sold for scrap and is awaiting shipment to its final destination. Photo taken near the intersection of Allegheny and Blair Streets, next to the AIRCO Plant.

Shown here is Brush Run as it enters the tunnel under the Westbound Classification Yard on its way to flowing into the West Branch of the Juniata River a short distance away. Also visible is Pennsylvania Railroad gondola #343466. The Yard and this waterway tunnel were completed around 1902, some 70 years earlier! Photo taken just South of US Route 22.

CR 1862, F7A, 1976
Description:
Everyday. Here is an original 35mm color slide by E. Roy Ward that was taken in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 24 April 1976. Shown here is recently-repainted Conrail engine #1862, an F7A built by GM-EMD for the New York Central Railroad as number "1862" in October of 1952 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. This unit was heavily damaged during the Summer of 1975, but had been returned to service by the time this photo was taken. Along with another GM-EMD product, it's poised to haul a train of newly-repaired freight cars to Altoona and elsewhere. Visible in the distance are Hollidaysburg's historic "Chimney Rocks."

Everyday. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Robert Yanosey that was taken in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, during August of 1978. Shown here (L to R) are Conrail engine #6865 and a Lackawanna Railroad "Geep" whose number is not recorded. #6865 is an RSD12 built by the American Locomotive Company as PRR engine number "8665" in February of 1958, renumbered "6865" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger, and then acquired by Conrail. They're poised to pull a mixed-cargo freight train out of the Hollidaysburg Yards.

Both were built by GM-EMD: #8079 in February of 1973 and #3342 in June of 1978. In this context, they're pulling a long string of hopper cars into Hollidaysburg on the Bedford Branch line. Also visible in the center is Conrail's Hollidaysburg Car Shop; it was built in 1955 by the Pennsylvania Railroad and christened the "Samuel Rea Shop." Shown here (R to L) are Norfolk Southern Railroad engine #610 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. In this context, they're about to cross Bedford Street and enter the Hollidaysburg Yards with a mixed-cargo freight train. This stretch of track is actually the original right-of-way for the Allegheny Portage Railroad, active between 1834 and 1856.
