PC Power. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in March of 1972. Shown here is Penn Central Railroad engine #6970, an AS616 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton for the Pennsylvania Railroad as number "8970" in June of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. By the looks of it, this locomotive ~ now renumbered "6970" ~ has been sold for scrap and is awaiting shipment to its final destination. Photo taken near the intersection of Allegheny and Blair Streets, next to the AIRCO Plant. |
