Album Info:Here are eight original photos that were taken by an unidentified photographer at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during the Fall of 1957. I purchased all of these slides in a single eBay auction on Sunday, 19 August 2018.

Description:  Here is the first of eight original photos that were taken by an unidentified photographer at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1957. Visible on the left is a passenger train that has just rounded the Curve, and is now on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. On the right are two of the City of Altoona's reservoirs.

Description:  Here is the second of eight original photos that were taken by an unidentified photographer at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1957. Shown here (L to R) is PRR engine #2001 and a "Shark" B-unit whose road number is not recorded. #2001 is a BF-16 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in June of 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower, later rebuilt as an ABF-18 rated at 1,800 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after 15 years of revenue service. They are pulling a mixed-cargo freight train, and are about to round the Curve on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West.

Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #7050, #7113, and another "Geep" whose number is not recorded. All are EFS-17M's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each; #7050 was built in October of 1956 while #7113 was outshopped in May of 1957. They are pushing a mixed-cargo freight train as it rounds the Curve on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West Also visible is PRR & Railway Express N-5 cabin car #5001.

Shown here is PRR engine #5825, a BH-50 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in May of 1947, originally rated at 3,000 HP for passenger service, downgraded to 2,500 HP for helper/pusher service, and retired in April of 1962.
