Here is the third of eight original photos that were taken by an unidentified photographer at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1957. Shown here (L to R) is PRR engine #2001 and a "Shark" B-unit whose road number is not recorded. #2001 is a BF-16 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in June of 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower, later rebuilt as an ABF-18 rated at 1,800 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after 15 years of revenue service. They are pulling a mixed-cargo freight train, and are about to round the Curve on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |
