Miscellanea. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Philip R. Hastings that was taken near Leolyn, Pennsylvania, on 2 December 1956. Shown here )L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6779 and #6816. Both are Class "M" (4-8-2) "Mountain" locomotives. #6779 is an M-1B built by the Lima Locomotive Works as an M-1A during March of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in December of 1948, and retired in September of 1959. #6816 is an M-1 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in June of 1959. They're pushing a northbound coal train on a very cold day. Note the N-5 cabin car: it's lucky number 477777! This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-2).

Here is the first of three original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken from the 17th Street Bridge in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Parked in the foreground (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6835, #9889, #267, and the tender of another locomotive whose road number is not recorded. #6835 is an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in March of 1957. #9889 is an H-10S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1915 and retired in October of 1958. And #267 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata in December of 1917 and retired in June of 1957. Over in the Westbound Classification Yard, an unidentified Class I-1S (2-10-0) scurries about. Here is page one of a three-page article entitled "Welded Units." It was published originally in the November 1941 issue of "Mutual Magazine," page 33.
