Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 4 July 1947. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6853, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in April of 1950 after 24 years of faithful service. Partially visible in the left background is the East Altoona Roundhouse; the smokestack of the Roundhouse Power Plant is visible at the right. Gary Mittner Collection. |
