This was Bunge’s grain elevator at Destrehan, Louisiana, as photographed from the Mississippi River levee. SW1200 8050 was serial number 19537, built in August 1954 as Oliver Iron Mining 943 and then it went to U.S. Steel’s Fairless Works as second 22. U.S.S. sold it to McHugh Brothers, then it went to Bunge at Marks, Mississippi and then it moved to Destrehan when the Marks elevator was razed. The other unit was CLCX (Chattahoochee Locomotive Corp.) 98106, a former Alco S4 which had been repowered by Johnson Railway Service. This elevator was opened in 1961 and is served by the Canadian National. |
