Here is a postal card entitled "New York-Chicago Flyer.'" No Postmark. Front Caption: "The P.R.R. New York-Chicago Flyer. (The 18-hour train)." Nonetheless, the lettering on the Combine indicates that this is actually "The Pennsylvania Special." It's powered by Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6018, a D-16B (4-4-0) "American" built in Juniata as number "5201" during August of 1907, sent to the West Jersey & Seashore Railroad and renumbered "6018" in July of 1917, and retired in July of 1927 after 20 years of faithful service. The photographer's name, the exact date, and the location are not recorded. |
