| PRR E8 5802 westbound departing Englewood Union Station on the south side of Chicago, Illinois on April 11, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This locomotive was built in July 1952 (c/n 15666) on EMD Order 6354, later it became PC 4281, then Amtrak 289. It has just left Englewood (Rock Island's platform shed is seen to the left of the locomotive) and will arrive at Chicago's Union Station in about 15 minutes. I believe this to be combined Train Number 3-71, according to the June 1965 Offical Guide. The PRR Employes Timetable No. 2 in effect April 25, 1965 shows it as Train #71. Train #3 was a Pittsburgh to Cincinnati train, Train #71 originated on the N&W and arrived in Cincinnati, was combined with #3, and was a stop-everywhere train all the way to Chicago. Timetable #2 shows (page 48-49) that this train had a lot of U.S. Mail Work scheduled at almost every stop, with the Note E; Train Stops, Mail Received or Delivered, Or Both, or Note CD; Mail Caught And Delivered. |
