The grandly named Kansas City, Clay County & St. Joseph interurban line ran through the countryside of northwest Missouri between 1913 and 1933, providing frequent service with wine-red cars from downtown Kansas City to both St. Joseph and Excelsior Springs. The right-of-way between Ferrelview (near KCI Airport) and Dearborn in Platte County is now the appropriately named Interurban Road. This truss bridge structure was an original and crossed the Platte River near a point called Sharps. It has since been replaced by a more modern and wider, but much less interesting, concrete span. |
