Description:  Here is another view of the massive articulated Yellowstone type locomotive built by Baldwin LocomotiveWorks in 1941 ready to pull a string of ore cars. Note on the back of the photo states that this loco was on the roster in January, 1961. Description:  Massive Yellowstone-type articulated steam locomotive built by Baldwin in 1941 for the DMIR. This was a heavy hauler of ore cars. Specifics - M-e class Yellowstone-type, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, four 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 695,040 lb, massive tractive effort of 140,093 lb. Title:  DMIR 2-8-8-4 #227 - Duluth Missabe & Iron Range
Description:  Dragging long strings of ore cars was the true and sole purpose of this massive 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type locomotive, DMIR #227, as seen in this action shot.. Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in May of 1941 (serial #62533, class M3), the loco was a main power source for nearly 20 years before being retired. Surviving the scrapper's torch, this loco was stored at Proctor, MN, In 1967, it was moved to the Lake Superior RR Museum and put on display. oday, her driving wheels are supported slightly above the railheads. An electric motor is used to spin her wheels slowly so that you can see the motion of the massive valve gear. From the collection of Howard W. Ameling

No. 10200 was the first of 42 electric locomotives delivered by General Electric to the Road beginning in 1915, the year it was built, when the Milwaukee electrified operations across five mountain ranges in Montana, Idaho, and Washington. No. 227 was one of 18 yellowstone-type locomotives built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Missabe Road in 1941
