NYC DICCS map 1965 Rochester Zone Q
Title:  NYC DICCS map 1965 Rochester Zone Q
Description:  The single track Charlotte line is all that remains today. Everything else is ripped up, paved over or buried in the weeds. Hague, Murray, Child and Whitney streets were crossings at grade level. The Abandon rose at that point and bridges carried the line over Orchard, Broad (mistakenly labeled as "Mague" on the DICCS), the canal, Moore and Oak streets. After Oak St., the line dropped down to grade level on its way to the Kent St. yard.

Description:  These are great for reference, if not entirely accurate - "Nichols Weyman" and "Nicholas Weyman" should be 'Nichols-Wyman' I believe.

Saturday unit train (coal) to Kodak - 1 of 2 - September 1965
Title:  Saturday unit train (coal) to Kodak - 1 of 2 - September 1965
Description:  With a whopping all-Alco 7-unit A-B-A-B-B-B-A lashup, the crew finished with Kodak, then headed north to Charlotte. This is the return trip in the afternoon at the Dewey Ave. crossing. Note the Chevron sign in the background, just over the 50's Pontiac. This is the last round-up for NYC Alco FAs and FBs. Most did not make it into PC.

Description:  Date approximate. OK, everything is fixed and we're on our way. Note the above deck pneumatic MU connections - I've seen this on NYC RS1 locos only - not sure if they are home built or ? Note also the steam generator stack on the short hood of 9900.

Title:  NYC 9900 & 9911 on the 1st Belt - shot 5 of 8
Description:  Date approximate. With their retrieved train now in tow, 9900 & 9911 are about to cross Dewey Ave. 9900 really is an odd duck with the steam generator and pilot stripes - it must have had an interesting life before handling local freight. The Barnard Service & Supply Company (right) property is now part of the adjacent cemetery.

RS3s on the 1st Belt - summer of 1970 - 1 of 3
Title:  RS3s on the 1st Belt - summer of 1970 - 1 of 3
Description:  Date approximate. First Belt is pulling across Ridge Road in this summer shot. The B&O is over on the right. Notice the autos patiently waiting at the B&O lights (no crossing arms until the massive Ridge Rd. rebuilding years later...). The RS3s are relatively new on 1st Belt assignments (for some of us anyway) and have started to push out the older RS1s in local service. Later, they too would be supplanted, then by first generation EMDs.

RS3s on the 1st Belt - summer of 1970 - 2 of 3
Title:  RS3s on the 1st Belt - summer of 1970 - 2 of 3
Description:  Date approximate. The brakie is getting ready to drop off at the switch, not at the one in the foreground however, but at the one for the Kodak lead, still a few car lengths beyond the front of the train. NYC (PC) 9901 made it into PC paint, but didn't make it into the next decade. The stub track is a leftover from when the two sidings (now both south of the Ridge) once extended across the Ridge. Those two sidings, plus a team track (on the other side of the train) and a lumber yard spur (this side) account for why the Kodak lead switch is so far down. All is gone today except for the main and the Kodak lead.

PC 1775 and others in 1972 - shot 1 of 3
Title:  PC 1775 and others in 1972 - shot 1 of 3
Description:  This shot is from February 1972 in the PC days. I'm standing a few hundred feet south of Ridge Rd. on the east side of the NYC, pointing the camera north. What looks to be structure on the extreme right is actually the billboard close to the Ridge, so that should give you an idea of the location and distance. B&O 6541 and 5928 are waiting patiently on the B&O main for the Kodak security guard to arrive and open up the gate. The 1st Belt job is returning from Charlotte with F's 1775, 1784 and ? running elephant style and GP9B 3827 tucked in the rear. RS-1's were the norm in the '60s, followed briefly by RS2/3's. Before the second generation Alcos (RS-32 and similar) arrived, PC got their monies' worth out of the last of the first generation EMDs by putting them in local service. F7A-GP9B-F7A lash-ups were common on Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse local jobs.

Hojack swing bridge
Title:  Hojack swing bridge
Description:  Date approximate. This view is from the Lake Ave. bridge looking to the east. The swing bridge is closed (to river traffic) and aligned for rail. The two tracks of East yard are visible through the bridge on the Summerville (West Irondequoit) side of the river. On the left, a cut of empty hoppers are shoved into one of the port leads. Today's Charlotte Runner is out of sight on the right (curving to the south). Everything in this photo is gone today.
