The depot is now owned by the Eland Area Historical Society. The community was originally known as Eland Junction, because it was the junction of C&NW’s Ashland line and Wausau line. C&NW New London, WI Depot
Description:
The C&NW depot at New London, WI on 31 Aug. '13. The depot was built in 1923, replacing the original depot built in the 1870s. It closed in 1982 and was moved to its current location in the Heritage Historical Village, about 1,000 feet south of and on the opposite side of the tracks from its original location, in 1987. It has also been rotated 90 degrees from its original orientation. The Heritage Historical Village, adjacent to Memorial Park, is at Milepost 140 along the CN, former C&NW, rails that parallel Montgomery St.

CN local passes the former C&NW depot as it heads northeast toward Kaukauna Industrial Park No.1 on 30 Mar. '14. It dropped most of its train on the mainline just west of Gertrude St. so it could go spot a covered hopper at Schuh Transport, Inc. Then it would return here, pick up its train, and continue on to service Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. mill. Designed in the Art Moderne style and built in 1947, it originally had a flat roof. The northeast and southeast walls of the C&NW depot at Plymouth, WI on 15 Jul. '14. It was built in 1912, as was the WSOR, former MILW, depot partially visible in the background. Before 1912 there was a union depot that served both roads. The C&NW depot has been a restaurant since 1973, it is currently named PJ Campbell's at the Depot.

Description:
CN local passes the C&NW Neenah & Menasha depot as it traverses the remnants of the C&NW yard in the Twin Cities of Neenah and Menasha, WI (this is on the Neenah end) on 7 Aug. ’14. The border between the two cities is about 200 feet north of the depot. The depot, built in 1893, has been restored and is currently home to an architectural firm.

The northeast and northwest walls of the old C&NW depot at Manitowoc, WI on 20 Aug. '14. The depot was built by the MLS&W and dates to at least 1883. Some references suggest it could be the original depot built around the time the railroad was incorporated in 1872. C&NW built a new depot about a mile to the west in 1945, but that one no longer exists. A couple of awkward additions were constructed on this one after the railroad stopped using it. It is/was used by Holiday House of Manitowoc County, Inc. They have a newer facility, so I’m not sure if they still use this building or not. The currently CN tracks are on the right.

The depot, designed by Charles Sumner Frost, was built in the Italian Renaissance Revival style and completed in 1899. Passenger train service ceased in 1971 but it was still used by the railroad for years. Since 1996 it has been home to Titletown Brewing Co. The depot is also a stop on the new Green Bay Packers' Heritage Trail because the team traveled to some of their road games from here and were often welcomed by ardent fans upon their return to Green Bay.

It became known as the north side depot after 1890, when the Milwaukee Lake Shore & Western, later C&NW, built their large, ornate depot south of the Fox River. That depot disappeared many years ago.

CN 2562 and CN 5778
Description:
CN container train crosses the new CN bascule bridge over the mouth of the Fox River and passes the depot/yard office as it heads south through the former C&NW yard at Oshkosh, WI on 23 Jul. '15. The bridge was completed in Aug. '13 to replace the 1899 C&NW swing bridge. The taller building behind, north, of the depot/yard office sits at the approximate location of the C&NW's South Oshkosh depot, a smaller, more plain structure than their once ornate Oshkosh depot which still stands less than a mile to the north. Historically, everything south of the Fox River was once known as South Oshkosh. The C&NW South Oshkosh depot was saved from demolition, but its current fate is unknown to me. I have seen post-relocation photographs of it on the internet, but they do not reveal its precise location. Some old references state it was moved to downtown Oshkosh, others state it was moved to a park in Oshkosh.

C&NW North Green Bay, WI Roundhouse
Description:
This is what remains of the C&NW roundhouse at the CN yard at North Green Bay, WI, as seen on 29 Sep. '15. C&NW built a new 40-stall roundhouse in 1913-14, along with a power house, store house, oil house, mechanical coal chute, water tank, ice house, and other improvements for $350,000. The roundhouse was reduced to 18 stalls in the late 1950s. The Fox Valley & Western reduced it to 5 stalls in 1998-99. I do not know when the turntable was removed, photographs on this website depict it at least to 2003.

I've never seen this yard completely empty. This building sits several yards south of the location of C&NW's South Oshkosh depot, a smaller, plainer structure than their once ornate Oshkosh depot which still stands less than a mile to the north. A northbound CN through freight approaches the yard office at the unusually empty former C&NW yard at Oshkosh, WI on 10 Feb. '16. Normally this view of the facility is blocked by the cars in the yard. I've never seen this yard completely empty. GTW 6221 and C&NW Neenah-Menasha, WI Depot
Description:
CN local passes the former C&NW Neenah-Menasha depot as it backs through the remnants of the C&NW Neenah-Menasha yard at Neenah, WI on 5 Jun. '16. The depot was built in 1893 to replace the original ca. 1861 depot. It was restored in 1994 and is currently home to Gries Architectural Group, Inc., and Sturtevant & Associates, LLC, an insurance firm. While quite rusty, the metal C&NW sign still adorns the trackside gable above the arched window. The original C&NW Neenah depot, built ca. 1861, was located near Galloway Co., 601 S Commercial St. The depot was later moved behind the Jersild Knitting Co., 333 N. Commercial St (about 400-500 feet out of frame to the left). It was razed after new depot was completed. The border between the Twin Cities of Neenah and Menasha bisects the yard about 200 feet north of the depot, out of frame to the right.

C&NW Spooner, WI Depot
Description:
The northeast wall of the former C&NW depot at Spooner, WI on 23 Jun. '16. The opposite end of the depot receives the most attention from photographers because that is the end visitors first see when they arrive, so I thought I would post a photograph of this equally interesting end of this historic railroad structure. Constructed in the Craftsman style for the CStPM&O (CMO) in ‘02 by Ashland, WI contractor T. E. Pugh. It measured 288’ long by 32’ wide (52’ wide with the overhangs) and cost $25,000. The northern half had a second story for railroad offices. Passenger service ended in ’61. The northern half of the depot was demolished in ’63. The remaining portion has been home to the Railroad Memories Museum since ’90. The last freight train passed by in ’92.

The north and west walls of the former C&NW depot at Sheboygan, WI on 3 Oct. '16. It was built in 1906 for about $35,000 or $75,000, depending on which reference is accurate. The contractor was G. A. Johnson of Chicago. It is currently used by Discovery Coach, 1139 Pennsylvania Ave., Sheboygan, WI.

Sheboygan, WI C&NW Freight House

The west and south walls of the former C&NW freight house at Sheboygan, WI on 3 Oct. '16. The wooden portion of the freight house was built by the MLS&W in 1887 (according to wisconsinhistory.org/). The 1887 Sanborn map depicts it oriented parallel to S. Water St. (now N. Commerce St.) at Pennsylvania Ave. The brick freight office was constructed on the southeast end of the building between 1887 and 1891, according to the Sanborn maps. It was built in 1887 at a cost of $2,182.63, if it is the same freight office described in the Annual Report of the Milwaukee, Lake Shore and Western Railway Co., 1888. Wisconsinhistory.org/ states that it “was moved to its current location around 1898,” but it wasn’t moved very far. It was simply rotated approximately 30 degrees clockwise to its current orientation at 1134 Pennsylvania Ave., Sheboygan, WI. The northeast corner was cut off at an angle matching the track that ran parallel to S. Water St. (now N. Commerce St.). The brick freight office appears to have been rotated about 60 degrees counterclockwise and instead of being attached to the now south end of the building like it originally was, it was attached to the now east side of the building at the south end. The building was used by C&NW until the early 1960s. The Shoreland 400 Rail Trail, the former C&NW right of way, is visible in the middle of the photograph.
