Chicago & Alton
Title:  Chicago & Alton
Description:  On our trip to Cleveland, we stopped to do something wed planned for a long time. No, not sit at Springfield and shoot Amtrak and UP trains, but tour the Frank Lloyd Wright Dana Thomas House, which is a block from the tracks, several blocks south of the station. The house is well worth the visit, and has the largest amount of original Wright art glass in existence-and the tour is free!! We had some time after before heading east, so went up to see what was going on. It turned out we were able to shoot St Louis bound train 305, but prior to that, we got some shots of the station itself, along with some panels about Abraham Lincolns funeral train. This is the main part of the building, with a second floor tower overlooking the tracks.

Take a hike
Title:  Take a hike
Description:  We stopped in Peru Ind for dinner on our way to Cleveland recently, and found this lighted sign where the Nickel Plate Trail crossed old US 24(the new road, a four lane, bypasses the city to the north), the main drag though town, marked by this nicely done lighted sign of the NKP herald.

Monett mural
Title:  Monett mural
Description:  The folks in Monett, MO, a junction town on the Frisco Cherokee Sub-where it met the Sixth Sub, todays Arkansas & Missouri, the main line now BNSF, painted this mural on a downtown building. I think it was done in 2019-hence the engine number. There was an SLSF 2019, an E 8 named in Friscos series of thoroughbreds, in this case, Cavalcade. Nice to see it memorialized so prominently.

Still a pretty station
Title:  Still a pretty station
Description:  I was last here in April 2015. The station here has been an attractive photo prop for years, and it still is. The best part is, theres an overpass where NM 55 crosses over the tracks, and room to park, making it a great place to stop for an hour-which will probably net you 4 to 6 trains, the best view is of westbounds. BNSF uses the station as a base for MOW forces, and it's in good shape.

Were proud of both our lines
Title:  Were proud of both our lines
Description:  This billboard is at the edge of Vaughn alongside US54/60 on the west end of town. BNSF and UP cross here, an over/under arrangement to the west of town. I keep hoping one day to get a UP train on the old SP crossing under a BNSF train on the old Santa Fe. One of these days...

Loading to the left
Title:  Loading to the left
Description:  This elevator at Eva OK was once served by the MKTs Wichita Falls & Northwestern, a long line extending from Wichita Falls Tex, to a connection with the Rock Island at Hooker, and the Santa Fe at Keyes, up in the panhandle. Here, it was the Beaver Meade & Englewood before becoming part of the MKT. Now, its part of nature, the line having been abandoned in the mid 1970s. The elevator here remains, however, now truck served.

Lone elevator
Title:  Lone elevator
Description:  This elevator was alongside the MKTs Beaver Meade & Englewood, a line that was abandoned in the mid 1970s. The main track passed to the right, with a loading track to the left. Don Hofsommer's book Katy Northwest describes the history of the line.

Union Station
Title:  Union Station
Description:  Oklahoma City had two passenger stations, the Santa Fe station that is the northern end of the Heartland Flyer, downtown. The other station, now bereft of tracks, is south of downtown, tucked in between Scissortail Park and I 40, and once served the Frisco, MKT and Rock Island. Its in good shape, and can be seen easily from the Omni, where we stated recently in this view from our 16th floor room.

Description:  A more expansive view of the station shows some of the ancillary buildings associated with the station. That's Interstate 40 in the background, on what would roughly be where the Rock's Choctaw Route sat. Scissortail Park is in the foreground.

There were tracks here once
Title:  There were tracks here once
Description:  I was returning home from the UP 4014 chase when I encountered this elevator, seemingly left alone in a field. As with most such structures, it was once rail served, in this case by a Santa Fe branch from Wichita to Englewood Kan. It obviously has not seen a train in a very long time.
