Old Central of Georgia sign
Title:  Old Central of Georgia sign
Description:  Seen here is an old sign from the Central of Georgia warning of an upcoming drawbridge. This sign was located on the Alabama side of the Chattahoochee River near Columbia AL for many years. It was rescued by a private individual who found it laying amongst a pile of scrap. It has been in private hands for years and now the owner has graciously donated it to the Columbia AL Historical society. For more info on the Columbia Historical Society, go here: http://www.columbiahistoricalsocietyofalabama.org/

Newest GWI repaint
Title:  Newest GWI repaint
Description:  The newest GWI basks in the summer sun at Hilton GA. This unit began life 10/1980 on the Union Pacific and has seen stints on the FEC before coming to the AGR. It left Hilton headed to Dothan AL on 6/17 and I assume a return to the AGR Railroad.

A trio of GWI units
Title:  A trio of GWI units
Description:  GWI's Hilton and Albany RR power has recently seen a third unit being used between Hilton and Albany. Part of the reason lies in the fact that another GWI road, the GA Southwestern, has begun funneling cars to/from Albany GA using the interchange at Arlington GA where the HAL picks up and set off cars to/from the GSWR. In this case a pair of SD40-2's bracket a former VRE unit now stenciled as a GP39-2.

Some of the last of the classic schemes
Title:  Some of the last of the classic schemes
Description:  Even with the steady flow of orange/black corporate paint schemes now seen in the area, there are still a few units in the classic schemes roaming about and on this day I was lucky enough to catch a pair of them together. A Bayline GP40 and AN GP15-1 still in there classic schemes are seen on a dreary day working the peanut mill at Headland AL.

Three Notch unit being used on the CIRR
Title:  Three Notch unit being used on the CIRR
Description:  One of the latest units to get a coat of orange and black at the CIRR shops in Cedar Springs has actually spent some time working on the CIRR rather than quickly leave the property. Perhaps some mechanical work was also recently performed and GWI wnats to make sure all the bugs are worked out before sending it to an isoloated line where getting it to/from GWI's shop involves costly moves over CSX.

Title:  Headed for the CIRR paint shop
Description:  A AGR SD40-2 is seen in the CSX yard in Dothan AL enroute to the CIRR paint shop at Cedar Springs and a blast of orange/black paint. CSX will interchange this unit to GWI's Chattahoochee Bay who will ferry it from Dothan to Hilton where it will take the CIRR to Cedar Springs.

Small switcher seen
Title:  Small switcher seen
Description:  I recently saw this small switcher at the Schnitzer scrap iron company in Dothan. Schnitzer loads out much scrap and many railcars have been cut up at this location. The switcher has been moved to the end of their track and remains there into the first of October 2013. I am not sure if it is to be scrapped or if it will be used to move cars around on their trackage. The high side gonds seen in the photo are for scrap loading while the tank cars near the end of the track are to be scrapped.

Bayline colors seen
Title:  Bayline colors seen
Description:  The Hilton and Albany RR, a unit of GWI, local from Dothan AL arrives using a Bayline GP40 still in the classic Bayline scheme. This is one of the last units in the area in the classic scheme as the corporate orange/black has nearly taken over. I think some GP38's in the Bayline green/yellow still operate around Montgomery AL and on the GSWR out of Cuthbert GA. But they are getting rare.

Hilton and Albany local
Title:  Hilton and Albany local
Description:  Todays Hilton and Albany RR local is about to leave Hilton GA with 7 locomotives. Three of their own, including a SD40-3 in the CEFX scheme, and four NS locomotives. One pair of NS locomotives had brought down a coal train to Hilton GA while the other set are returning from carrying a rock train to Panama City FL. Yes boys and girls...regular unit coal and rock trains along with numerous industries along the line and NS gives up and leases the line to GWI....go figure.

Mainline power
Title:  Mainline power
Description:  For at least 35 years the Bayline local between Panama City FL and Dothan AL has originated in Panama City running to Dothan and returning to Panama City. Recently this has been basically "flipped". They now originate in Dothan and run to Panama City then return to Dothan. Therefore sets of mainline power are common in the Bayline yard in Dothan. This set is entirely in the GWI corporate colors except for a lease unit in the middle.
