Title:
CB&Q 2-6-2 Class R-4 1955
Description:
Flying flags ( I couldn't tell if they were green or white) Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-6-2 Class R-4 1955 and 1907, and 4-6-2 class S-3 2974 are seen at Alhambra, California on February 22, 1942, photograph by R. H. Kindig, print by Tom Klinger, Chuck Zeiler collection. The print I scanned is stamped R. H. Kindig photo, this same photo appears in the book, Steam Locomotives Of The Burlington Route, and credits G. M. Best. Number 1955 was built by Brooks in January 1905 (c/n 30411) and sold for scrap in May 1948. The train is on the SP during World War II when that road was short of motive power. Several CB&Q locomotives were leased to the SP. Note the blackout visor on the headlight and SP train number boards added to all three locomotives.
