Goodwin/Alco DL-531 |
Description: |
The Goodwin/Alco DL-531 is one of Australia's most important locomotive designs, having been built in large numbers (210) and proving useful for a multitude of duties. Most were built for New South Wales RY in the 48-class; a smaller number went to South Australia RY, where they were the 830-class. Built from 1959 to 1970, they carry a 6-251 engine rated at 950HP for traction. 833, shown here, was built for the SA Ry and is now stored in poor shape off the Cootamundra turntable. |

Description: |
833 is a Goodwin/Alco DL-531, and is shown derelict by the turntable at Cootamundra. It's a South Australia 830-class unit, which is largely identical to the NSW RY's 48-class, one of which sits in the background. Originally configured for SA's wide gauge, it's since been modified for NSW's standard gauge. |
