Swiss Federal Be 6/8 I |
Description: |
Crocodile on freight train on the Gotthard Tunnel line. 14253 was built in 1921 and withdrawn from ordinary service in 1983 but was retained at Erstfeld and operated on a regular revenue freight schedule for the benefit of enthusiasts. Note the water crane for steam locomotives - although most swiss lines were electrified steam locomotives were held for certain services, particularly emergency needs if wires were down, etc. However by this date steam was gone and some diesels were available for emergencies or work trains. |
