Here the Western Maryland Scenic Railway bridges the gap between two states, as it crosses the Potomac River between West Virginia and Maryland on the way to the station in Cumberland to pick up passengers for the voyage to Frostburg. The engine is an EMD GP30. Taken from the C&O Canal Trail in Cumberland. After doing some extensive research I found out this GP30 is a restored former Conrail 2175/Reading 3607 engine, as the original Western Maryland Railway never had any GP30's on their roster. |

Western Maryland engine 502 is moving some cars around in the yard, putting together a train of passenger cars for a train run from Cumberland to Frostburg in a about an hour and a half. Western Maryland and later Chessie System operated a car repair shop in this yard for decades. The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad has given this place a second life, as they keep all of their vintage rolling stock, passenger cars, and engines here.
