SCL 1776 |
Description: |
SCL 1776 comes to life with a destroyer like cloud of black smoke as a waiting group on a field trip watch the show. This short train, consisting of SCL 1776, ATSF 133 (steam generator car), ATSF 5005 (exhibit car) and SLSF 1776 (caboose), is on display at the Barstow depot. Maybe it's sight of smoke that gave him the urge, but note the gentleman in front of SCL 1776 is lighting one up too. |

Description: |
Lineville Subdivision train #587 (The Wadley Turn) is departing Wadley on its return run to Manchester (GA) Yard (northbound ran as #588). No local work will be performed on this run as there are crowds to visit and g—odie bags to toss to children trackside !! For many years, on the last Saturday before Christmas, the engineer of this train made it his personal mission to spread joy (and goodie bags) along his run. - Bicentennial paint |

My great friend, Jim Matuska (http://matuskarailart.com) painted this beauty to serve as the cover illustration for the 4th Quarter 2011 edition of Lines South (ACL/SAL/SCL Historical Society Magazine). - Bicentennial paint |
Description: |
For several years, SCL trains 587 & 588 (The Wadley Turn) operated a Santa Train on the last Saturday before Christmas. As I prepared my Lines South article about the Manchester, Georgia based Santa Train, I realized that I needed a much better illustration than my photos. Jim Matuska captured the spirit of the train perfectly by using a compilation of my photos, taken over several years, of this annual train. Thank you, Jim and Merry Christmas - Bernie |

SCL U36B 1776 |
Description: |
Seaboard Coast Line U36B 1776 was on a westbound (timetable SOUTH) Louisville & Nashville train just east of the L&N's GENTILLY YARD in New Orleans. The 1776 had lost the brass bell which had been mounted under its headlight, but still had the extra lights to illuminate its cab and hood. The train's other units were SCL GP38-2's 526 and 550. |
