Number 8076 was built in May 1979 ( c/n 42387 ) and was repainted in SPSF paint sometime between June 1985-86. Eventually it became CRL 548 and later UP 573. Original total of 36 units, numbered UP 564-599 (UP 590 and 599 were not delivered); rebuilt from C30-7s to C36Ms by Metro-East Industries, East St. Louis, Illinois, and by VMV Enterprises, Paducah, Kentucky. Assigned UP 63-95 and 97-99 in December 1999 (leaving UP 96 number slot for use by the Heritage Fleet SW10); no units were renumbered prior to being returned to Helm Financial in late March 2000. |

ATSF 8076 |
Description: |
Climbing up from Mojave through Sand Canyon, the grade eases to just 0.2% at Eric, just east of Monolith. The clouds and snow level have dropped to about 4,000' as a short westbound Santa Fe pig train reaches the top. ATSF 8076 later received Kodachrome paint, then became Conrail Leasing 548, GECX 548, then rebuilt 5/99 to C36M UP 573. Date of photo approximate. |
