Description:  Wallin. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Richard R. Wallin that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1953. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5865 and two more units whose numbers are not recorded. All are EP-20's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5865 was constructed during February of 1948. This A-B-A set is pulling a mail and express train down the Allegheny Mountains and around the Curve en route to Altoona and points East.

Description:  FSF. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in September of 1959. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5865 and two more "EP" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5865 is an EP-20 built during February of 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Footbridge with a mail and express train on their way to Harrisburg and points East. Just behind them are the crew-change building and the water tank, both of which saw service during the good ol' days when steam locomotives were marshaled here to push freights up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to the summit at Gallitzin.

Description:  Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train between SLOPE and WORKS Towers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 06 June 1965. Shown here (R to L) is PRR engine #5865 and two other units whose numbers are not visible. All were built by EMD. #5865 is an EP-20 built in 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They are pulling an eastbound passenger train, and will soon stop at the Altoona Passenger Station on their way to Philadelphia and New York City.
