Great action shot of PRR 2-10-4 Texas type steam locomotive #6473 heading up a long drap of coal cars at the iconic Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, PA. Built by the PRR's own Altoona Shops not far from here in February of 1943, the powerful loco only served for 14 years beflor being retired and scrapped in September of 1957. Diesels had taken over its duties at a lower cost. Specs - serial #4424, class J1, 70" drivers, impressive 275 psi boiler pressure, 29x34" cylinders, engine weight of 572,640 lb, impressive tractive effort of 95,484 lb. No date or photographer was listed for the photo. |

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6473, a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during February of 1943 and retired in September of 1957 after just 14 years of revenue service.
