WLE 0-6-0 #3972 - Wheeling & Lake Erie |
| Description: |
This little yard switcher was built by the Wheeling & Lake Erie's own Brewster, OH Shops between 1935-1940 as Wheeling & Lake Erie 0-6-0 #3972. It had a few modern features like roller bearings on axles and tenders, and Nicholson thermic syphons to improve water circulation and reduce scale. After December 1, 1949, the WLE fell under the control by the Nickel Plate Road. If the loco had lasted, it would have been renumbered in the NKP 200-300 series. If anyone knows the final disposition of this loco, please leave a comment below. No date, location or photographer was listed for this photo now in my collection so approximates were used to post the picture. |
