BRW 1853, The "Jack Frost," Train #504, River Road, Holcomb Mills, New Jersey. The CNJ Flemington Branch, originally the South Branch Railroad, opened in 1864 and ran from Somerville, through the Duke Estate in Hillsborough, and paralleled the Lehigh Valley from Flagtown to Rockefellow Mills, where it turned southwest toward Flemington. The line from Somerville to Three Bridges was abandoned 1960ish. The portion of the line between Three Bridges and Flemington is now being operated by the Black River & Western Railroad. The abandoned ROW of the ex-CNJ Flemington Branch can still be clearly seen on Google Earth. |
