Southern Train #7  Contributor's Pick!
This FP7A and the coach were one of the passenger trains Southern Ry. promised to run so as not to have to join Amtrak. The freight diesels were necessary because the intermodal cars were the money making part of the train. Yes, it was a mixed train, but was mainly an intermodal train that made station stops. That day the train was short, made up of 3 Geeps, a FP7A, a coach, a TOFC, 4 containers, and a caboose. At the Alexandria end the FP7A and the coach continued past the Southern yards to make the Alexandria and Washington Union Station stops.
