Standing in the storage/scrap line at St Paul, MN, is MILW 2-8-2 340. Originally built as CM&StP #8634 by Alco-Brooks in September of 1918, it was renumbered in 1938 to MILW 340 as seen here. The loco was officially retired in September of 1951 after nearly 33 years of service and scrapped.. Specs - L3 class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 27x32" cylinders, engine wt of 320,000 lb and tractive effort of 62,949 lb. This is an R. Donald Ross photo. |
