The unit was involved in a fatal wreck in Arminto, WY in 2001. Mixed freight crashed into a another train parked in siding due to a misaligned switch. One engine was scrapped, three others were put back into service. The fuel tank on this engine was scrapped. This engine was the third and trailing engine on the mixed freight. At this point I believe this engine was moved to LTEX and scrapped.

BNSF 7938 was the engine totally destroyed and it’s little remains were eventually hauled away for scrap.
