Mississippi Export 49
Mississippi Export 70-ton GE No. 49 was parked near the railroad’s shop at Moss Point, Mississippi. It had been built in June 1950 as Helena & Northwestern No. 70, and was named the TULLY HORNER in honor of Edward “Tully” Horner Jr. The H&NW had been incorporated in September 1948 to operate the south end of the former Missouri & Arkansas, and took possession of the line on 12 May 1949; but revenues were less than expected so the railroad quit on 18 October 1951 and the locomotive was sold to the MSE in December 1951.
