Altoona Action. Here is the first of two successive duplicate 35mm color slides via Al Chione that were taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1963. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9545 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. #9545 is an EF-15 built by GM-EMD as an EH-15 in October of 1948, rated at 1,500 horsepower, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15, and retired in December of 1963 after just 15 years of revenue service. This A-B-A set it pulling a mixed-cargo freight train under the 7th Street Bridge on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |
