MILW 4-6-0 ten wheeler #1112 was photographed sitting in the scrap line after its retirement in May of 1948. Originally built by Baldwin in September of 1900 as CMStP Vauclain compound 4-6-0 #322, it was renumbered many times - in 9/1906 to CMStP #1622, renumbered in 11/1912 to CMStP #4222, simplified & renumbered in 10/1926 to CMStP #2774 and finally renumbered in 6/1938 to CMStP&P #112. After nearly 48 years of service the loco was retired in May of 1848 and scrapped sometime after this photo was taken. Simplfied specs - 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 22x26" cylinders, engine wt of 187,600 lb, tractive effort of 31,004 lb and superheated. Arthur B. Johnson photo |
