Crossing County Highway P/old US Highway 10 (now routed on a 4-lane bypass just to the north). They're used to it, as numerous CN trains pass through every day, mostly on the ex-Soo Line Superior Sub, but L581 northbound and southbound is one of several daily on the ex-Milwaukee Road Valley Sub. Junction City is classic small-town Wisconsin, with an approximately 1:1 (or possibly higher) ratio of taverns to residents. Many of them have local and/or vintage beer signs, such as Point Beer just behind the crossing signal, and (hard to see) PBR just behind that. The one thing that sets Junction City apart in this day and age is the extremely vibrant railroad presence, while so many similarly-sized communities just have a dirt-paved bike path where C&NW or Milwaukee Road trains once rumbled through, or perhaps stopped at the station. It's all freight in Junction City for over 50 years now, but the action is nearly continuous 24/7/365. |
