Baera 2. Here is the second of two successive photos by W.G. Fancher that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6429, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during August of 1943 and retired in April of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, it's pulling a mixed-cargo freight around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. (Track 1) |
