Baera 2. Here is the first of two successive photos by W.G. Fancher that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Visible across Burgoon Run is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6429, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during August of 1943 and retired in April of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, it's pulling a mixed-cargo freight toward the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. (Track 1) |
