Built by Alco-Schenectady in October of 1916 as CNW 1614, it led a useful life for the Chicago & North Western. The loco was rebuilt in August of 1941 with an added stoker and an increased psi. Surprisingly, the loco was still in full service in 1954 and ironically, its last run on 5/22/1956 in Chicago was to replace a broken down diesel. Rebuilt specs - serial #56233, class E, 75" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine wt of 263,500 lb, tractive effort of 39,600 lb. A stoker was applied in May of 1942.
