With a head of steam up and ready, Baltimore & Ohio 2-8-2 Mikado #4434 is ready for the next assignment as it sits in the Glenwood, PA yard. Built by Baldwin in March of 1921 (serial #54681), it served the B&O for nearly 38 years. In 1957 to make room for new diesels, the loco was renumbered B&O #421. It was finally retired while in Cleveland, OH, in November of 1959. Specs - Q-4 class, 64" drivers, 220 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 327,400 lb, tractive effort of 63,200 lb. No exact date in 1948 was given and no photographer was listed. |
