M580 (Dixiana, SC - Louisville, KY) passes CP Sanderson on the south side of Memphis Jct. The Sanderson connection was built in 1966 following the collapse of the L & N's Red River bridge at Adams, TN. The bridge collapse resulted in trains off L & N's Henderson Sub detouring via the Memphis Line and Main Stem between Guthrie, KY and Nashville, TN (via Memphis Jct.). The lack of a wye track leading from the Memphis Line south to the Main Stem meant that the motive power and cabooses for every train had to be swapped at Memphis Jct. (resulting in numerous delays) prior to the completion of the Sanderson connection. |
