PRR Horseshoe Curve, #2 of 3, c. 1892
WR. Here is the second of three related images of photos by William H. Rau that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1892. Prominent here is an unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotive pulling an eight-car passenger train around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. They're passing over the immense two-track fill across Burgoon Run. Note that the famous stone "horseshoe" is already present. William E. Burket Collection.
