LAST CHRISTMAS: At least seven GE locomotive cabs are about to spend their "Last Christmas" at Midwest Steel and Alloy in Youngstown, Ohio. Unlike the group Wham!'s popular Christmas hit, this story is not as upbeat. In this December 24, 2021 view, CSXT #7675 (C40-8W), and four additional unidentifiable Union Pacific C40-8Ws, join Ohio Central #7133 (C36-7; classed by OHCR as C30-7) and OHCR #7131 (C36-7; classed by OHCR as C30-7; still in Conrail paint) in front of a pile of Union Pacific yellow and CSX blue scrap. While Midwest Steel still uses a 1950s era Pennsylvania Railroad SW1 to move cars around, these seven GE cabs built from June of 1985 to the early 1990s are about to become "razor blades." |
