AHC. Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in November of 1977. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad cabin car #980901, an N-6B built in the Altoona Car Shops during August of 1916. It was enshrined at the Curve in early 1964 to remember and honor the many thousands of men and women who labored in the Altoona Works for more than a century. Vandals set it afire in late 1977 ~ but instead of restoring it, the City of Altoona had it towed away and scrapped. What vandals started, bureaucrats finished: destruction of our railroad and cultural history. Alas.... |
