AMTK 406, F40PHR, 1995
Amtrak. Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken from the 4th Street Footbridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 1 July 1995. Prominent here is Amtrak engine #406, an F-40PHR built by GM-EMD in January of 1988 and rated at 3,200 horsepower. In this context, it's just departed the Altoona Passenger Station with a four-car passenger train bound for Harrisburg and points East. At the same time, three Conrail diesel-electric locomotives built by GM-EMD are departing the Westbound Classification Yard with a freight train bound for Conway. Note the two iterations of the 7th Street Bridge in the distance: the old and the new!
