Classics. Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Baltimore, Maryland, on 29 August 1916. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4172, an E-3SD (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata as E-3D number "3002" during 1906, renumbered "4172" in April of 1913, rebuilt as an E-3SD in May of 1916, and retired in August of 1930 after 24 years of faithful service. Note the hostler with the long coat about to climb into the cab. (Gift from Brad Mann.) |
