| K720 (Blue Island, IL - Burkeville, AL) is taking the S & NA North Sub at CP Brentwood. The track to the left is the Nashville Sub south to Godwin, TN (north side of Columbia). The Nashville Sub was orignally the Nashville & Decatur Sub, running all the way to North Athens, AL via Columbia and Pulaski. The Pulaski to North Athens stretch was abandoned in the 1970's and the section south of Columbia was sold to the Tennessee Southern in 1989. I suspect that the Tennessee Southern would have also gotten the Brentwood to Columbia segment if the Saturn (now General Motors) plant in Spring Hill had not been under construction at the time of the sale. |
