Central of Georgia combine 390 was on an 8-car special arriving in New Orleans from Knoxville for the Tennessee-Air Force SUGAR BOWL, which was played the next day in TULANE STADIUM. This car had been built by American Car & Foundry in 1947 for service on the NANCY HANKS II. The Southern Railway “acquired” the car in 1971, renumbered it 726 and wired it for use as a tape recorder car on steam excursions. It was eventually named MAN O’WAR then WILLIAM J. PURDIE, JR., and went to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad after the NS ended its excursion program. |
