CR GG1 #4937
A sad moment in the life of this powerful, sleek locomotive - whitelined in the scrap siding at Altoona, PA. Built by the PRR Altoona shops and Westinghouse in April of 1943, this would be the 2nd to the last one ever built. It served the PRR, PC and Conrail rosters until retirement in 1979. However, according to Joe Roger's album in RRPA, this loco somehow ended up at Cooperstown Junction, NY. A plaque that Joe Rogers photographed in 2006 there states "2000 In Memory of Robert E. Anderson, The GG1 Rehabilitation Society" Unfortunately, this was not PRR GG1 #4937 that made it to Cooperstown Junction - it was scrapped after retirement. According to online sources, the Cooperstown Junction GG1 is PRR 4917 (ex-AMTK 4934). Does anyone know if it's still there? No photographer was identified for this photo.
