Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at Frankford Junction near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 13 September 1953. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4738 and #4734. Both are P-5A (2-C-2) boxcabs built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and rated at 3,750 horsepower each. #4738 was built in February of 1933 and retired in March of 1964, while #4734 was built in January of 1933 and retired in October of 1964. In this context, they're pulling a livestock train on its way from the midwest to the slaughter houses of New York. ("LouisFols"; #11 of 13) |
