Missouri Pacific GP7 323 was built as the 4257 in March 1953. It was originally a freight unit with a 1600-gallon fuel tank, but in the early 1960’s it was one of 15 freight geeps modified with a steam generator, a 2500-gallon fuel and water tank, and hood-mounted air tanks. By the time this photo was taken at Race Street Yard in New Orleans, under the Greater New Orleans Mississippi River Bridge, there weren’t very many MP passenger trains left.
