Fairly nice photo of the Alco-Schenectady 2-10-4 Texas type steam locomotive built for the Central Vermont in December of 1928. Specs - class T-3a, 10 built, 60" drivers, 250 psi boiler pressure, 27"x32" cylinders, engine weight 419,000 lb, tractive effort of 82,620 lb. One online source states "They were relatively light, small, and low-drivered. Nevertheless, these engines rattled windows and shook the ground, according to a December 1993 Trains recollection. And they weren't kind to the rails." The ten were all scrapped between 1954-59. |
